Wow!
Just wow. That word alone sums up what I’m feeling today, the day after this country has elected an African-American to the top job.
This election has been exciting and it is historic. It is those things not only because Barack Obama is an African-American, but because of his abilities as a unifier and an inspiration to so many people. He’s brought forth in a multitude of people a hope and a passion that has the potential to transform America. Obama has made apparent that change IS possible, and not solely on a racial front. He’s helped so many segments of the population find their voice. For goodness sake, he’s turned red states blue.
I obviously admire Barack Obama… his smarts, his world view, his steady demeanor, his focus on the issues we’re facing as a nation. I have much faith in him as our country’s leader. I know not everyone has that faith, but I hope we will come together and support this man as he faces a tough, uphill battle. As Obama said, he will be every American’s president whether he won your vote or not. He will need our prayers.
As someone who voted for W. not once, but twice, I understand how it feels to be let down. I recognize that Obama is not perfection, but I do believe he can be exactly what the United States needs at this moment. I hope, for all of our sakes, that our next president will exceed our highest expectations.
